Upper Riccarton Book Club

In Term Four 2009 a new tutor was employed to start a Book club on Tuesday afterschool at Upper Riccarton Library.

Rosie Mamoe is a trained teacher and also takes the Pasifika class on Wednesday at Upper Riccarton. She is working with the Children's librarian, Kirsten Smith to build up the numbers from scratch.  We are delighted that Rosie is now a full-time Learning Specialist on our team.

History

In late 2008 the new learning advisor, Julianne Pask, met a group of local mothers who brought their children to the South library every Friday. Both parties were keen to start a book club and it began part-way through Term Four as a trial.

It began with mainly seven year old boys from Thorrington school but has now expanded to include almost as many girls and pupils from other schools. Another important addition is the group of junior aspiring members who at four and five are a little too young for the technology but not too young for colouring in and games.

Online Book Clubs

Do you love books and reading and computers?

Book clubs are about more than just books. Although reading is the focus we enter our books on the shelfari.com online book site. This allows us to keep an online record of the books we are reading and share those books with others.
