Horizons Bioblast Term 4 2009
Welcome to our biodiversity experience
We explored the biodiversity of the Heathcote River with experts from Lincoln University. The 'creepy, crawly' interactive sessions involved trapping insects, designing traps, identifying and recording our findings.
Student insect trap design
Students designed and made their own insect traps out of everyday materials. They then set their traps along the Heathcote River outside the South Learning Centre.
What do you think this trap will catch?

Identifying Insects
During lesson two the bioblast students collaborated to identify a variety of different insects using resources found on the internet, from books and the help of an entomologist.
They then started to design their own insect classification key using the programme Inspiration.
